About this deal

David Rogers is a dedicated professional with a multifaceted background encompassing Engineering, automotive technology, and technical writing. He possesses a passion to broaden and disseminate his expertise in Powertrain and Automotive Engineering. Each edition is well written and, I think, with the car enthusiast in mind as opposed to the professional reader. You don't have to learn everything, but it does teach you information that as a consumer you should know. When exploring the courses we have available, you may see a fee attached but you’re more than likely to be eligible for a fully-funded enrolment!

In pole position for over 50 years, the fully updated Hillier's Fundamentals of Motor Technology continues to be the industry core text. Plenty of diagrams, cross sectional diagrams and references to the diagrams so you know what you're looking at and also that you know what you're reading if it is describing a difficult-to-explain-without-diagrams part/component or process. If you are a mechanic wanting to increase your knowledge or a student/potential student then you should not be without this book!

I am being serious here - this is a book that anyone who owns a car should have, and should understand. He has authored and co-authored numerous publications, primarily focusing on engine and vehicle technology. It's actually interesting - you don't need to be training to be a car mechanic to find some sort of appeal. It assumes absolutely zero starting knowledge, so great for someone looking to understand the basics of how a vehicle works. Well its a book so I got no problem with it because the availability was enough for me but I would've appreciated it more if they have delivered me a new one. The book starts you off with the history of cars and then dives right in with the 1st topic, giving colour pictures and excellent diagrams all described so even a dummy such as myself can get it once you have the basics down experience in the field will take you the rest but it's nice to have a starting block. We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others. It gives you detailed information on how vehicle components work and what they are for, without getting too complicated. Book 1 is similar to previous editions of Fundamentals of motor vehicle technology, but, with updated information. The exams for any of the IMI qualifications in Britain are written to the material given in this book. Book 1 is also aligned with topics that students will have learned about in earlier stages of study. The book gets straight to the point with an easy to use index and titled paragraphs I'd recommend this to anyone studying Motor Vehicle Technology at college or even if you just want to learn something new and you don't really need to know a lot about cars to understand this book unlike any other books. These widely-admired and authoritative texts provide the best possible resource for students, apprentices, enthusiasts, and professionals who need to get to grips with core concepts and achieve comprehensive mastery of core concepts of automobile technology. My only complaint is its a bit too technical for my level, but I can't fairly mark it down for my inaptitude. ANY question you will encounter on the phase tests or the exams will have an exact answer in this book. I may supplement my collection with chassis/bodywork technology because I own an elderly Mercedes and it needs periodic maintenance.

I have used other study books that I didn't really understand but the Hillier's book helped me so much that I probably wouldn't have passed Motor vehicles level 1 at college. Book 2 follows on with greater depth and breadth for modern vehicle technologies and electronic based systems and is more appropriate for advanced students and for existing technicians who want to develop knowledge of the modern vehicle. The books, of which I believe there are currently 6 per edition, are not updated very often and seldom at the same time. Apart from the fact that it is Americanised: Britain and America have their own terminology regarding the subject, so it can be slightly confusing if you haven't got a lecturer to set you straight.By using the Web site, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to be bound by the Terms and Conditions.
