About this deal

For most of the book, Levi “ who is very nearly in [his] midthirties” is brooding, angsty, anxious and insecure. She joins forces with Levi to fulfill her bucket list, not expecting to enjoy spending so much time with the grumpy, troubled man, who also happens to be the brother of her high school crush. While there, Georgie finds her old “friendfic” diary where she detailed all the things she wanted to do as a teenager. Her words make me feel seen and also make me feel the absolute love the characters have for each other too.

But a suprise is waiting for her when she get to her home, her paretns are on vacation and have let a man to stay while they were away since he is fixing up his house. But for me personally, I’ve never super connected with the sex scenes in the other KC’s books I’ve read. Instead of finding a new PA job in Los Angeles, Georgie decides to move back home, to a small town in Virginia, to help her best friend, Bel, who is almost ready to give birth to her first baby. Also, the book is able to really clearly distinguish between how others see Georgie, how Georgie sees herself, and how the people who love her see her, and yet combine all three for a fully-realized, three-dimensional character.Kate Clayborn, if you’re reading this, please make this a series and have the next one be about Evan or Olivia so I can die happy. Plus all the things I loved most about it were skimmed over more than I'd like, mostly Levi and his siblings and Georgie actually figuring out what she wants. And something I really appreciated about Georgie, All Along is that - while it inspects and questions and deepens its own relationship to this well-trodden genre staple - you never get the sense that it's looking down on it, or denying why it attracts readers.

Kate Clayborn is one of my ALL TIME FAVORITE authors, and I would probably have murdered someone just to get to read the first two chapters early. iterativeness, for lack of a better word, really resonated with my experience of a longer-term relationship as well. While I enjoyed a lot about this book it was a little too slow going for my tastes and a little long in the tooth for what it is so I can't bump it up to four stars but I think many people will like it and I would read more of this author's work for sure. It is rare to fall in love with characters at the same pace and to the same depth that they do on the page, but Clayborn's writing is so immersive, so exuberant, it's a truly multisensory experience.Yes, I get it, it’s certainly possible to deeply and thoroughly internalise parental abuse but Levi is in therapy and yet never addressed his daddy issues? This was a surprise to me, as I hadn’t read this author before and was in a place where I have just read one of the best books this year, so this one I wasn’t expecting much, and it blew me away. The acclaimed author of Love Lettering weaves a wise and witty new novel that echoes with timely questions about love, career, reconciling with the past, and finding your path while knowing your true worth. Levi is the local bad boy turned good but these days he lives a very small quiet life sticking mostly to his home and work life. Fast forward several years and Georgie finds herself working as a PA for several in the entertainment industry in LA.

An unexpected situation makes Georgie leave California and move back to her small hometown in Virginia. I also enjoyed Georgie and Levi, finding their contrasting personalities really enjoyable - who doesn't love the grumpy x sunshine trope?

As Georgie and Levi spend time together, Levi also has work to do on more than just building a dock.
